The Palisades: A Steele Creek Community
A master-planned community near Lake Wylie where sections, amenities and club membership each need to be understood separately.

Overview
The Palisades is a large master-planned community in the far southwest of Mecklenburg County, close to Lake Wylie and the South Carolina line. It was developed in phases, so streets built in different periods can feel and function differently.
The community is often discussed alongside The Palisades Country Club. That club is a private club. Owning a home in The Palisades does not, by itself, confer golf or club membership.
Location and layout
The community sits on the York Road (NC 49) side of Steele Creek. Compared with northern Steele Creek, it is farther from Uptown and closer to the lake and the state line. Internal roads link multiple sections, each of which may carry its own sub-association or rules.
Housing
Housing is predominantly single-family, spanning a range of sizes, lot types and construction periods. Some sections have been marketed with attached or smaller-lot product. Confirm the product type, builder and year of construction for the specific home instead of relying on a community-wide description.
Amenities, HOA and memberships
Ask three separate questions: What does the master association provide? What does the section association (if any) provide? What requires a separate, optional or invitation-based club membership?
We have not yet published HOA dues or amenity details from primary documents. Until we do, treat any figures you see elsewhere as claims to verify with the association and in recorded covenants.
Lake relationship
The Palisades is near Lake Wylie, but most homes are not waterfront, and proximity does not establish lake access. If lake use matters to you, confirm whether the specific lot has deeded or community access, and whether any dock is permitted for that parcel.
Everyday convenience and travel
Groceries and errands typically involve a drive toward the Steele Creek Road or South Tryon corridors. Airport and Uptown trip times depend on the exact street, the route and the time of day; we do not publish a single figure.
Property research checklist
- 01Confirm the parcel, county and municipal jurisdiction in Polaris 3G — a Charlotte mailing address does not settle city limits.
- 02Request recorded covenants, plats and the current HOA budget, dues schedule and any special assessments.
- 03Confirm which amenities the specific lot is entitled to, and which require a separate membership.
- 04Check school assignment for the exact address with CMS; assignments can change.
- 05Review FEMA flood mapping and any drainage easements for the lot.
- 06Drive your real commute at the times you would travel, from the actual street.
Frequently asked
- Does buying in The Palisades include golf membership?
- Not by default. The country club is private and membership is separate unless a specific document states otherwise.
- Are homes in The Palisades waterfront?
- Most are not. The community is near Lake Wylie; any waterfront or access claim must be confirmed for the specific parcel.
