Public Access
Public Lake Access
You do not need to own shoreline to use the lake. You do need to know which access points are public.
Public versus resident-only
Public access points — county parks and state boating access areas — are open to the public under posted rules and fees. Community docks, boat slips and beaches inside subdivisions are typically limited to eligible residents. We never present a resident-only amenity as public.
McDowell Nature Preserve
McDowell Nature Preserve is a Mecklenburg County Park & Recreation site on Lake Wylie in southwest Mecklenburg County, with trails and lake frontage. Check the county's official page for current hours, fees, boat-launch availability and rules. Last checked: verification pending.
Boating access areas
The NC Wildlife Resources Commission maintains a map of public boating access areas. Use it to confirm launch locations, parking and current status rather than relying on third-party lists.
